Last May, our gal Christine at Rescue in Style was turning 30 and her wishlist was big … $26,613.75 big. Her wishlist totaled the cost of getting every dog in Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) a bed. We came along side Christine and over two weeks we raise $5,660 and bought 56 beds for the dogs waiting for their forever homes. It was exciting to see the donations coming in, often sharing tears with Christine, as I [jes] texted her the daily donation total. Then in June, a bunch of us got together and put those beds together. It was a lot of fun and incredible to see firsthand the donations put to use for the dogs. And we are so thankful to have such a wonderful supportive community.
So this year, we’re partnering up to buy beds again, only this time, for cats! This Valentine’s Day we are inviting our beloved dog moms to have a heart for the kitties. Help us raise enough money to buy 120 Kuranda beds for the kitties.
Since CACC is government funded, they can’t take financial donations from the public, but they can take items donated. Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control was started in 2003 to help with just that, collecting donations to buy things to make the time every pet is waiting for their furever home a little more bearable. Real Dog Moms of Chicago has been talking with the Jenny Schlueter, bipetual expert at CACC, for a while now, always chatting up ways we as a community to help our city shelter out and cat beds are a more recent need brought to our attention. She’s convinced she’s going to make us dog moms cat lovers, too. (I know, never going to happen, right?!?)
Now through the 28th of February, you can make a tax-deductible donation and the funds go directly to the “Friends of CACC” which will help enable them to get this cozy (indestructible) bed in every cat’s kennel. We can love the cats this month, too? Right? Doesn’t mean we like them…
